Mixed feelings about quid pro quo

Paying with cash has a unique texture.

It might be the friction involved. Your feet against the ground on your way to the ATM. Your fingers ferrying money from the machine to your wallet. Your wallet against the fabric of your favourite pants. The cash transmitted from your hand to someone else’s as the transaction closes.

It’s not the same with contactless or e-commerce. But there’s still friction. Your fingertip on the cursor and each click. Your arm sailing through the air as you move your phone near the terminal. The wait for payment declined or payment approved.

I prefer contactless.

But I miss the texture of cash transactions.
